The revised 2014 model year Toyota Verso is the first Toyota to use a new 1.6-litre D-4D diesel engine sourced from BMW.

Replacing the previous 2.0-litre unit, the new 1.6 produces 110bhp and 270Nm of torque.

As a result, 0-62mph arrives in 12.7 seconds with a top speed of 115mph.

Economy improves by 8% over the old engine, now recording 62.8mpg on the combined cycle, while CO2 emissions fall by 10 g/km to 119 g/km placing it in VED Band C (£30 pa).

The new engine also sees the use of a stop/start system in the Verso range for the first time.

The Verso’s suspension has been revised to suit the characteristics of the new engine, and Toyota say they have made “extensive modifications” to the engine to ensure it meets Toyota’s standards.

As well as the new engine, the Verso range also gains a new Trend grade for 2014.  It fits between the Icon and Excel models and features black C-pillars, five-spoke alloy wheels, front fog lights, rear privacy glass, Toyota Touch 2 with Go satellite navigation, front parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

Prices will be announced in January.  Ordering will open in February with first deliveries expected in March.
